The Green Bay Packers could be looking for wide receiver help in the offseason. They have ample spending room and will need to replace Christian Watson who is slated to miss an extended period of time.
While listing realistic free agents the Packers could target, FanSided’s Eric Fischer urged the Packers to sign Tampa Bay Buccaneers star Chris Godwin.
“This one may be a bit of a stretch, but hear me out. Chris Godwin is a free agent but is coming off an ankle injury that cut his 2024 season to just seven games,” wrote Fischer. “In that time, Godwin registered 50 catches for 576 yards and five touchdowns, which would have put him third in touchdowns, fifth in yards, and tied for second in catches for the 2024 Packers. And he achieved this in less than half a season.”
Signing Godwin is not without risk. He suffered a significant injury but has a track record of success in his career. He was a Pro Bowler in 2019 and had eclipsed 1,000 yards in the three seasons before his injury this season. Godwin has torched the Packers in the past and could be a valuable piece for Jordan Love and the offense.
“At 6-foot-1, Godwin uses blazing speed, having run a 4.42 40 at the NFL Combine prior to being drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers,” wrote Fischer. “Packers fans are familiar with Godwin. In his past two games against Green Bay, he has caught 15 passes for 265 yards.”
Godwin is an unrestricted free agent and his injury could impact his market. Spotrac projects him to sign a three-year, $67 million deal in free agency. However, if his market does not get that high, the Packers could get him for cheaper.
